Latvia receives funding for rural development of the European Agricultural Fund and within the framework of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, these funds shall be administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Rural Support Service.

In order to receive funding from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund, Latvia has developed and approved the Programme for Fisheries Development for 2021-2027. It provides support for the three priorities of Regulation:

  • promoting sustainable aquaculture activities as well as the processing and marketing of fishery and aquaculture products by promoting food security in the EU;

  • promoting a sustainable blue economy in coastal, insular and inland areas and promoting the development of the fishing and aquaculture community.

In order to ensure the absorption of funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund, Latvia has developed and approved on 11 November 2022 the strategic plan for the Common Agricultural Policy of Latvia for the period 2023-2027 (CAP SP).
