Every person is valuable. Mental disorders are highly diverse and can affect anyone. In a supportive and accepting society, individuals and their loved ones do not have to hide and, without fear of misunderstanding or judgment, can seek help, thereby reducing the negative impact of mental disorders on their lives.

For people with mental disorders to integrate into society, stabilize, and improve their health, understanding, acceptance, and support from those around them are essential.

With this goal in mind, the Ministry of Welfare is organizing the "Evenings with Cinema" for the fifth year in October—World Mental Health Month. We invite you to attend a free evening of cinema, literature, and discussions about mental health on October 31 at 18:00 at the Krāslava Culture Center, Rīgas Street 26, in Krāslava.

This will be an opportunity not only to watch a great movie, Despair, but also to meet its director Kārlis Lesiņš, the author of the book Despair, just published by Jumava publishing house, Oskars Tarvids, as well as to engage in human conversations about mental health, diversity, people, the importance of an inclusive society, and human rights.

Participants in the "Cinema Evening" on October 31:

  • Director of the film Despair, Kārlis Lesiņš;

  • Author of the book Despair, Oskars Tarvids;

  • The event will be hosted by Anete Bendika, event host, and actress of the improv theater DIVAS.
