The municipality of Cēsis Region continues its efforts to improve the learning environment in the city — the new, almost 1000 square-metre extension to the Cēsis City Secondary School, co-financed by the European Union (EU), has been opened.

On the first floor there are three multifunctional classrooms with transformable walls. Connecting them gives the school a meeting room, which it did not have before. On the second floor there is a reading room and a Latvian language classroom. The schoolyard is designed to allow lessons to take place outdoors.

Cēsis City Secondary School is the largest educational institution in the region in terms of the number of students, with a full cycle of education from pre-school groups for toddlers to evening and extramural programmes for adults, and the lack of premises has made work very difficult for both teachers and students.

The school extension was built as part of the EU Fund project “Modernisation of educational institutions in Cēsis Region”. The aim of the project is to contribute to the infrastructure of educational institutions established by the Cēsis Municipality, promoting the development of competency-based education and the creation of a learning environment suitable for modern requirements at Cēsis State Gymnasium, Cēsis Friendly Appeal State Gymnasium, Cēsis City Secondary School and Cēsis 2nd Primary School.
