Ministry of Justice

How are resocialisation processes implemented in prison? Re-socialisation is a set of different measures that a prison provides to a prisoner to help him or her to reintegrate successfully into society after release and not to commit crime again. In order to reintegrate successfully into society, the ex-prisoner is supported by specialists in prison: programmes, activities, education and employment.

The animation "Before. Prison. After" is the story of a boy called Bruno Bērziņš, nicknamed Čiriks, his first offences, his imprisonment and his efforts to re-enter society with the support of specialists from the Prison Administration and the State Probation Service (SPS), as well as his family, volunteers and neighbours.

The second part of the short film tells the story of the boy's life in prison and the opportunities for resocialisation offered by the prison.

Since 2017, the Prison Administration, in cooperation with the State Probation Service and the State Employment Agency, has been implementing two projects co-financed by the European Social Fund - "Integrating former prisoners into society and the labour market" and "Increasing the efficiency of the resocialisation system" - aimed at strengthening the knowledge of resocialisation staff in working with prisoners and helping prisoners prepare for life in freedom during their imprisonment.
