To give parents of special children a moment of rest, the organization Palidzēsim.lv, with the support of EU funds, organizes various group classes focused on self-growth, and one of them is drama therapy for parents. The classes provide emotional and psychological support, as well as an opportunity to meet like-minded people who share a similar life story and make new friends.
The lesson for parents is the opportunity to devote a moment to themselves, do something else - outside of everyday care while children are getting therapy or being involved in classes.
Drama therapy for parents
Drama therapist Anna Steina: “For parents, this is an opportunity to devote at least an hour and a half to themselves, to focus on their needs, and to understand what is most important at this point, so that they can feel full, function properly, and help their children.”
DRAMA THERAPY is one of the specializations of art therapy, in which its members use different theatrical techniques, role games and psychodrama, to develop dramatics, stories, fairy tales, metaphors, objects, photographs, videos, etc., to change the emotional state and way of thinking in a creative way, to achieve physical, emotional, social integration and personal growth.
“Drama therapy could be symbolically compared to a multi-dimensional laboratory, where first difficulties are identified. Analyse and seek to understand which are the biggest problems that need to be addressed, which should be corrected. Afterwards, drama therapy can become as an experimental site with safe environment and clean enough to carry out tests - trying to realize things that are difficult, trying to understand how these problems can be solved. And then, when we see improvements in this laboratory, we can go on - try to integrate these things into real life. Accompanied by a drama therapist, the client is guided to achieve improvement,” explains Anna Steina.
