Project implemented in the State City Valmiera: L.Paegles street connected to the TEN-T network

The Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) is a European transport infrastructure network. The major cities in Latvia were offered to construct or rebuild streets  to connect industrial zones with the TEN-T network, thereby separating them from local importance traffic flow and improving the quality of life. In Valmiera, a number of ideas were  submited for funding under this financing. L. Paegles street connection with the TEN-T was recognised as the most important and primarily to be implemented, hence  over 2 km of the street were constructed. Not only residents benefit from the construction of a  new street, but also those who use it on a daily basis to get to Valmiera's largest schools - Valmiera State Gymnasium and Valmiera Primary School. This is very convenient for residents living in the suburbs. Positive feedback has been received about the newly built segregated path for pedestrians and cyclists. The path has asphalt concrete pavement and the residents use it daily.

More than EUR 49 million from the European Union funds are allocated to transport infrastructure improvement projects in seven state cities. This facilitates the connection of these cities to the TEN-T network, while improving the urban environment and regional competitiveness. More than 17 km of alternative routes have already been built, while another 8 km will be built or rebuilt by the end of 2023.
