The Vidzeme Hospital has completed a project worth over six million euros aimed at significantly expanding medical rehabilitation services for both outpatient and inpatient care. The new center is now housed in a modern, state-of-the-art two-story building, offering a wide range of new services. The center will cater to clients seeking preventive health improvements as well as patients with acute conditions or exacerbations of chronic illnesses. The new center will open its doors to the public and patients in January 2025.
Today, during a ceremonial event attended by the project management team, the Vidzeme Hospital rehabilitation team, and invited guests, the new Vidzeme Rehabilitation Center was inaugurated in Valmiera. The event began with the symbolic ribbon-cutting, followed by a tour of the new facility where attendees could learn about the services offered.
The Minister of Health, Hosams Abu Meri, praised the development of Vidzeme Regional Hospital's infrastructure: "The accessibility of rehabilitation services for the residents of Latvia is crucial, not only for prevention but also for ensuring faster recovery and improving the quality of life for chronic patients. The Ministry of Health, in close collaboration with the World Health Organization, has conducted an evaluation of the accessibility and quality of rehabilitation services throughout Latvia. In 2025, a methodological leadership center for rehabilitation will be established to ensure uniform standards and consistent service quality nationwide. I am pleased to see investments in healthcare infrastructure being implemented effectively and sustainably, ensuring that residents of the Vidzeme region will have access to rehabilitation services in modern, purpose-built facilities for health restoration."
"Today, we are opening new doors to medical rehabilitation and recovery in Vidzeme. Our new rehabilitation center is more than just a building—it is a promise to care responsibly for every resident and patient. We are confident that this center will become one of the most modern and patient-friendly rehabilitation centers in the country, utilizing the latest technologies and providing the highest level of care," emphasized Vidzeme Hospital Board Chairman, Uģis Muskovs.
The new center was reconstructed in the building of a former sports and cultural hall. The premises had long been unoccupied and deteriorating, making it a natural choice to initiate a modern development project. A new structural framework was built, creating a two-story space that expanded from 1,583 m² to 2,632 m². The new center features a separate entrance with a central hall, reception area, and visitor waiting rooms. It is also connected to the existing rehabilitation department, ensuring easy and comfortable movement between the facilities. The new rehabilitation center will play a vital role in treating patients after severe injuries, strokes, and various viral infections. It will also provide numerous preventive services, enabling people to focus on improving their health proactively. In addition to the existing services, the new Vidzeme Rehabilitation Center now offers underwater massage, Sharko showers, circular showers, a gym, pool exercises, a salt room, a sensory room, robotic technologies for occupational therapy, and a suspension treadmill system.
The center can accommodate approximately 80 people at a time. For accessibility, a driveway to the main entrance has been constructed, along with bicycle parking and a visitor car park with 27 spaces, including dedicated parking for individuals with mobility impairments.
The total project cost amounts to €6,666,000, of which €2,324,000 was financed through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, €249,000 from the state budget, and €4,093,000 co-financed by SIA Vidzeme Hospital.
The construction of the Vidzeme Rehabilitation Center was carried out by SIA “AIMASA,” with SIA “NAMS” as the author supervisor and SIA “RS Būvnieks” as the construction supervisor.
