"Ministry of Agriculture Real Estate" Ltd (ZMNĪ) has restored the protective dike of the Riga hydroelectric power station (HPP) reservoir in Ikšķile. The total cost of the project is EUR 2.8 million, of which 85% or EUR 2.38 million is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and 15% or EUR 0.42 million is co-financed by the state budget.
Before its renovation, the Ikšķile dam had been in operation for 40 years, with structural deterioration exceeding 30% for the reinforced concrete slabs, 70% for the expansion joints and 40% for the asphalt concrete pavement. The dam was in an unsatisfactory technical condition and needed to be renewed to ensure safe operation for the next 20 years and to protect the town of Ikšķile and its inhabitants from flood risks. The rehabilitation of the Riga HPP Ikšķile embankment will protect around 1500 people living in the part of Ikšķile's territory of 252 hectares affected by the flood risk from flood risks - thus promoting business development, increasing the value and attractiveness of the natural areas and improving the quality of life of Ikšķile residents.
The main works carried out during the restoration of the Ikšķile embankment between May 2017 and August 2018 were: restoration of reinforced concrete slabs by concreting on the 30 000 m2 wet slope of the embankment, repair of parapets and restoration of deformation joints, restoration of lighting on the embankment, restoration of the pedestrian and cycling path on the top of the embankment. To ensure environmental accessibility, three serpentines and a staircase were built at the end of each street connecting to the embankment, and landscaping and landscaping of the top of the embankment was carried out.
