To address the shortage of skilled craftsmen and restoration masters in Latvia, the Restorers' House was established at the Zaļenieki Commercial and Craft Vocational School. It was created as part of the "Initiation of WEBT" project, which aimed to improve restoration skills for future and current construction and restoration specialists in Zemgale and Panevėžys, enhancing their competitiveness in the labor market.
This project, under the Interreg Latvia-Lithuania Cross-Border Cooperation Program, has served as a professional tool for new development directions within a very short time frame, enabling the Zaļenieki Commercial and Craft Vocational School to offer an educational process that meets modern requirements. Undoubtedly, the most significant activity of the project for Latvia is the newly established Restorers' House.
Since its inauguration on November 20, 2019, the Restorers' House has gained wider public recognition by opening its doors, offering workshops, and sparking interest in various activities, building a bridge toward realizing future plans.
During the project, alongside the establishment of the Restorers' House, significant improvements were made to the vocational education programs at the Zaļenieki Commercial and Craft Vocational School. Apprenticeship programs were initiated, a non-formal education program was developed and implemented, masterclasses were provided for those employed in the restoration and construction sectors, and professional development for teachers was carried out.
The Restorers' House now includes six workshops (for masonry, woodwork, restoration technologies, upholstery, 3D design, and modeling), three classrooms (for drawing, drafting, and theory), a seminar room, an exhibition hall, and three storage rooms.
