Tuesday,19.12.2023 the new building of the children's and young People's mental health center (BJPVC) at children's hospital, where specialists will develop work in multidisciplinary teams, providing the best possible help to children and young people with psychiatric disorders, both outpatient and inpatient, has been solemnly unveiled. Before the construction of the new building was completed, children's psychiatric health professionals accepted patients into the children's hospital shed “Gailezers,” where the facilities were physically and morally outdated.
Patients at the children's and young people's mental health center now have access to vast and state-of-the-art facilities for counselling, physiotherapy, art therapy, play and ergotherapy. The inpatient has 24 bed spaces, there are only single-seater wards, accessible training and lounges, a gym and a hall for interest education.
Moving to new state-of-the-art facilities is important not only for improving patient experience, but also FOR BJPVC staff. 'Taking care of the quality and efficiency of the Centre's services, let us develop work in specialised multidisciplinary teams, the new Centre's premises are also designed to maximise communication and cooperation between specialists. Our task next year is to establish an active methodological management centre in order to support the formation and development of outpatient and Community-based mental health services throughout Latvia with the accumulated knowledge and competence of the children's hospital,” explains Nikita Bezborodovs, Head of the Centre for mental health center of children and young People.
“At the heart of the mental health of children and young people, a pleasant and calming environment is of particular importance. For the new and long-awaited building to open its doors to patients as quickly as possible, and for those children waiting for it to get help, public support for fitting out the facilities was needed. We are extremely grateful for the great responsiveness and generous support provided by both businesses and every donor in person over the past two years! Your contribution will provide additional support to children and young people during treatment and rehabilitation!" stresses Liene Dambina, Chairwoman of the Board of the children's hospital Foundation.
