The Vējturu nams, a unique nature concert hall, has been built in the territory of Jūrkalne Nature and Recreation Park. It is a two-story building with a wood chip roof, wooden rafters and a wooden plank facade. A new parking lot with a gravel surface and a pedestrian path with a board border were also built, as well as a well of happiness. Electric lighting has been built in the territory, wireless visitor registration and video surveillance systems have been installed.
The origins of Vējturu nams can be traced back to 2003, when the musician and artist Igo organized the first Jūrkalne clean-up event. The first sketch of the Vējturu nams created by Igo is more than 10 years old. It was clear from the beginning that this non-standard object would not be an easy task for the municipality, architects, designers and builders, however, the municipality was able implement the project with EU funds support - building the construction, which was completed at the end of 2019.
The Vējturu nams can be used not only by the municipality, but also by the public and entrepreneurs, organizing both public and private events. The Vējturu nams is adaptable for academic and popular music concerts, festivals, as well as weddings, corporate and other events. Everyone interested has the opportunity to realize their ideas in a unique environmental object.
The object's vision is to transform existing events from local to national and international by creating a new cultural and artistic offer - national and international ethno, folk and spiritual music and art festivals. It allows to expand the cultural space of the Suiti, promoting the preservation of the Suiti' cultural heritage.
The improvement of the environment in Jūrkalne was possible thanks to the project "Preservation, display and development of the cultural and natural heritage of Northern Kurzeme and tourism offer", which was implemented by the Ventspils Municipality. The total cost of the project is 372 291.44 EUR, of which 215 917.30 EUR is ERDF funding and 156 374.14 EUR is state and municipal funding.
