SIA “REZEKNE HOSPITAL” has carried out two large and complex projects – the reconstruction of the building of the infectious diseases unit and the improvement of the territory adjacent to it, the solemn opening of which took place on 15 September.

The COVID-19 pandemic, in the country and globally, put the rebuilding of the infectious diseases unit among the priorities for the development of the infrastructure at Rezekne hospital - in order to be able to deliver high-quality, safe and broad-spectrum treatments for infectious disease patients, both on a daily basis and in the event of epidemics, a comprehensive redevelopment of the building and improvement of the area was decided, transforming the communicable diseases unit building into a modern, safe and functional unit.

The status of the architectural monument of national significance granted to the building of the infectious diseases Division was a challenge for the implementation of the project, which greatly complicated the process of planning and rebuilding the project. In order to be able to carry out the renovation work of the building, the consent of the national Heritage Administration and permission for the works had to be obtained first. The building was designed in 1933 by Aleksandrs Klinklavs (1899-1982), the greatest health architecture specialist of his time, as a separate body of the new Latvian Red cross Rezekne hospital – the “contagious diseases building”, and is the most modern medical treatment institution of its kind in Latvia.

In parallel with the redevelopment of the building, the improvement of the area adjacent to the infectious diseases Unit was also implemented by rebuilding engineering communications networks, building a parking lot with 50 parking places, thus greatly expanding the number of car parks of the already existing Rezekne hospital to 156. Full restoration of the pavement has also been carried out, pedestrian pavements have been constructed, recreational areas have been established, the territory has been arranged and greenery has been carried out.
