Ministry of Transport

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport (MoT), the Greening reform of the public transport system in Riga and Pieriga is being implemented within the framework of the Recovery Fund (RRF), which aims to reduce the negative impact of transport on the environmental quality of the capital and to develop integrated public transport services that meet the needs of the population.

RRF funding in the amount of EUR 295 million will be invested in the modernisation and greening of the public transport system in Riga and Pieriga. Eight railway stations in Riga and Pieriga will be modernised to provide citizens with access to several services in one place. Stations with extended functionality, or "Stations 2.0", will provide an infrastructure where passengers can easily transfer from private to public transport, leave their car or bicycle in a free parking space, and continue their journey by train, city or regional bus.

Such multifunctional "Stations 2.0" will be located in Bolderaja, Šķirotava, Zemitani, Sarkandaugava, Dauderi, Ziemeļblazma, Carnikava and Saulkrasti. Thus, the connection of the railway with the city's public transport, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and other solutions that promote sustainable mobility will be ensured.
