Ministry of the Interior

On June 1, 2023, the implementation of Project No. VRS/RPVP/2023/4 "Procurement of Accommodation and Maintenance Resources for the State Border Guard" was launched, with the aim of increasing the control and response capabilities of the State Border Guard on the Latvian-Belarusian border – for the rapid and immediate prevention of existing and potential security threats and provocations, including ensuring the control of illegal migration at the external border of the European Union.

As a result of the project activities, the State Border Guard received special equipment and devices – portable anti-drone systems, drone detection and identification systems, high-power loudspeaker devices, tents suitable for winter and summer conditions with equipment (portable generators, folding beds, tent heaters), containers for storing logistical resources, office containers, a GSM device locator for aircraft – for more than EUR 2.7 million.

The equipment acquired within the project, as well as the State Border Guard personnel trained in its use, will provide the possibility for the sustainable development of the State Border Guard's control and response capabilities – for the rapid and immediate prevention of existing and potential security threats and provocations, including ensuring the control of irregular migration at the external border of the European Union. It also significantly strengthens the State Border Guard's ability to organize response measures appropriate to the current geopolitical situation and a progressive approach to integrated border management in accordance with the requirements of the European Union.

The project was implemented within the framework of the Financial Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy for the period 2021-2027, the leading institution in Latvia being the Ministry of the Interior.

The total cost of the project is EUR 2,850,814 (fund financing – EUR 2,138,110, state budget financing – EUR 712,704).
