Video surveillance improved on the Latvian maritime border

Ministry of the Interior

The Information Center of the Ministry of the Interior has completed the implementation of the second phase of the EU-funded project "Improvement of the Maritime Video Surveillance System".

Modern long-range video surveillance cameras have been installed along Latvia's maritime border, and operator equipment has been modernized.

Benefits of the New Cameras:

  • Full restoration of the State Border Guard's ability to monitor the maritime border using the Maritime Video Surveillance System, regardless of the time of day.

  • Improved image quality (sensor resolution) and improved optics (longer maximum focal length) will provide much better image detail, which is necessary for full target recognition.

  • The camera image stabilization function will significantly improve image quality when observing medium and long-range targets in windy conditions typical of the maritime border.

  • Wider possibilities for using thermal cameras, as they can be used in continuous mode.

  • More efficient work of the employees, as the new cameras are equipped with intelligent functions.

  • Reduced maintenance and repair costs (manufacturer's warranty, lower post-warranty repair costs).

  • Reduced camera downtime due to scheduled and unscheduled repairs.

Overall, the project has significantly enhanced Latvia's maritime border surveillance capabilities, providing improved security and safety for the country's coastal waters.
