Today, April 12, the Children's Hospital Building, which will include the Department for Emergency Medical Assistance and Observation Unit and the Ambulatory Center, was solemnly walled into a capsule with a message for future generations. With a total area of 7962.2 m2, this will be the largest of the new buildings being built in the Children's Hospital area to create a modern, patient-friendly environment. Patients in this building are scheduled to start being admitted in the first half of 2024.
The children's hospital targets improving patient experience and compliance with the increased epidemiological safety requirements, which during the Covid-19 pandemic highlighted shortcomings in previously designed hospital buildings.
150-200 children are targeted daily at the Children's Hospital after emergency medical treatment. Next year, the Emergency Aid and Observation Division, which is currently working in temporary facilities, will host patients in new, extensive, epidemiologically safe and reasonably designed spaces of 2 627 m2. The department will be in the new building, which is based on 12.04.2023. The capsule was walled with a message for future generations. The majority of the new building, 5310 m2, is allocated to the Ambulatory Health Centre, which will extend the possibilities of integrating the treatment process by reducing the need for hospital treatment for children.
The total financing of the project is EUR 25 271 143 (including VAT), of which EUR 10 200 000 (including VAT) is the support for the health infrastructure development project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and EUR 14 977 343 (including VAT) of the European Union Recovery Fund “Child Clinical University Hospital”. clinical University Hospital 'Development of the Integrated Health Care System'.
The reconstruction and construction of buildings, as well as the improvement of the area, are part of an ambitious improvement of the infrastructure of Children's Hospital aimed at creating a modern and patient-friendly environment. In 2021 and 2022, the Rehabilitation Centre and the Daily Stand were opened after the reconstruction. In 2023, the door was opened by the reconstructed Administration Building, the Home of the Child, the new rooms of the Palliative Care Service, the Epilepsy and Sleep Medical Centre, and a new building, the Centre for Psychological Health for Children and Youth. At the level of concepts and design, the outline is formed for the Health Care Development Centre, the Paediatric and Pharmacy house and the Early Intervention Centre for children with neural developmental disabilities. Infrastructure works are funded from a number of financial sources with support from the ERDF, the EU Recovery Fund and other funds.
