Crisis preparedness - dialogue between municipalities and state services

Ministry of the Interior

On February 28, 2025, at a seminar organized by the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, the Federation of Security and Defence Industries of Latvia, and Riga City Council, Minister of the Interior Rihards Kozlovskis introduced the distribution of funding for the adaptation and equipping of shelters.

During the meeting, discussions took place regarding the cooperation between local governments and state responsible services in cases of war threats or environmental disasters, as well as other issues related to citizen safety.

EU Funds contribution to civil protection

As previously reported, to accelerate the progress of shelter creation and adaptation in Latvia, the EU funds thematic committee has agreed to allocate 22 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund for this purpose.

The EU funds' contribution to the creation of shelters is a significant step in strengthening Latvia's civil protection. This funding will allow local governments to adapt existing premises and create new shelters more quickly and efficiently, providing safe places for citizens in crisis situations.
