The State Border Guard has signed a contract with AS "Baltic Workboats" for the procurement of a patrol vessel to fulfill the requirements of the State Border Guard. The total value of the contract amounts to 6,287,450 euros.

The patrol vessel will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient and effective execution of the State Border Guard's duties, not only in the Baltic Sea region, but also in supporting the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and other European Union member states in the Mediterranean region within the framework of Frontex-coordinated activities. Furthermore, it will strengthen the Republic of Latvia's capacity, as an EU member state, to fulfill its obligations regarding the control of the European Union's external borders and to address challenges at the European Union's external borders.

Through this project, the State Border Guard will significantly enhance its capabilities to ensure higher standards of maritime border surveillance and overall response capacity, which are essential for the surveillance of the European Union's external border and the ability to conduct operational activities in accordance with the European Integrated Border Management concept.

The patrol vessel complies with Frontex's technical equipment standards and is compatible with the fixed-wing vertical take-off unmanned aerial vehicles procured within the framework of the project "Procurement of unmanned aerial vehicles for the State Border Guard and Frontex".

The project will contribute to the implementation of the EU security strategy and protect fundamental rights and European values.

The project is being implemented by the State Border Guard within the framework of the Financial Instrument for Borders and Visa 2021-2027, with the Ministry of the Interior as the managing authority in Latvia.

This is further proof that the European Union actively supports Latvia by investing in our country's security. The new patrol vessel will not only help strengthen our ability to combat illegal migration and organized crime but will also enable us to provide greater support to other European Union member states.
