EU's contribution to security and convenience - border control modernization at Riga Airport

Since April 2024, the State Border Guard implements an EU co-funded project to modernize the automated border control system at Riga Airport – the ABC gate system.

Currently, ABC gate installation works are taking place at Riga Airport:

• arrivals sector – supplemented with 2 ABC gates;

• departures sector – a new ABC gate cluster with 10 ABC gates is being constructed.

The project aims to ensure an increase in passenger flow and more efficient border check times, as well as to strengthen the airport's position as a transit flight connection point.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the Financial Support Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy for the period 2021-2027, the managing authority of which in Latvia is the Ministry of the Interior.
