Innovations for public safety - experience exchange of the State Fire and Rescue Service representatives in Helsinki

Ministry of the Interior

From April 9th to 11th, 2025, representatives of the State Fire and Rescue Service's Unified Contact Center Administration and Civil Protection Administration are participating in the European Emergency Number Association conference in Helsinki, Finland.

During the conference, knowledge is gained about other countries' experiences in implementing innovative projects that improve public safety – both early warning systems and the development of the unified emergency number 112 operations.

The experience of other countries' institutions provides insights into the challenges of new projects and is also useful for evaluating opportunities to introduce innovative systems into the operation of Latvia's 112 contact center, as well as to improve the national early warning system.

It should be noted that in Latvia, the "112 Latvija" app and the website www.112.lv were created thanks to co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund. Also, thanks to co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund, a modern cell broadcast system will start operating this year for the safety of the Latvian population.
