Interreg funding allows firefighters to improve their skills in extinguishing peat fires

Ministry of the Interior

In late October 2024, firefighters from the State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia, together with their colleagues from the Šiauliai Regional Division of the Fire and Rescue Department of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, visited the South Karelia Rescue Service in Finland for a knowledge exchange.

During the exchange, valuable information was gained about Finnish best practices and experience in combating peat fires.

The newly acquired knowledge about various methods and procedures will be useful for developing the capabilities to extinguish this type of fire in Latvia in the future.

This activity was carried out within the framework of the Interreg VI-A Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2021-2027 project "Improving Cross-Border Cooperation in the Prevention and Response to Peat Fires" (PeatFire, LL-0007).
