Interreg support - the State Fire and Rescue Service strengthens cooperation with the Lithuanian rescue service

Ministry of the Interior

Thanks to the Interreg Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2021-2027, this week five officials from the State Fire and Rescue Service have gone on a business trip to Vilnius, where, within the PEATFIRE project, they continue to improve their knowledge and response capabilities in extinguishing peat fires, as well as strengthen cooperation with the neighboring country's rescue service.

At the Vilnius Firefighters' School, our representatives, together with colleagues from the Lithuanian Fire and Rescue Service, are learning about tactical solutions that are applied in peat fire incidents. The specific characteristics and working conditions of such fires, which must be taken into account when working in swampy areas, are being analyzed. The organization of rescue operations, first aid provision, and current ecological issues related to peat fire extinguishing are being extensively discussed. Special attention is being paid to the use of modern technologies and equipment in large-scale reconnaissance.
