Latvia and Italy strengthen cooperation in border security

On February 28, 2025, at the Main Headquarters of the State Border Guard, a meeting took place between the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Latvia, Alessandro Monti.

During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the field of border security and migration control, including the participation of the Latvian State Border Guard in Frontex operations in Italy and the deployment of Italian experts in Latvia.

The Chief of the State Border Guard invited the Italian Ambassador to address the Italian law enforcement agencies related to border guard issues to join the new Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA) Consortium, as Latvia plans to apply for the management of the BOMCA-11 phase.

At the end of the visit, the Chief of the State Border Guard thanked the Italian Ambassador for the constructive dialogue and affirmed the State Border Guard's readiness to continue cooperation to strengthen the European Union's security and effective border management.
