Latvia one the best three EU funds acquirers among new EU Member States

Latvia is the third among twelve new European Union (EU) Members States in terms of concluded agreements on EU funds implementation and financing paid to beneficiaries as of end-September, according to data presented in Hungary in the conference of new EU Member States on October 18.

Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance on EU Funds Issues Aleksandrs Antonovs states: “The fact that we are one the best three EU funds acquirers is not a surprise, because from the beginning of the EU funds period Latvia maintains its stable leading positions among the best acquirers.”

By September 31 Latvia concluded agreements with EU funds project implementers in amount of ~2.5 billion lats or 80.5% of total contribution; however project implementers were paid almost 1.2 billion lats or 37% of total EU funds contribution in 2007-2013 period.

In terms of the financing paid to project implementers the first among the best acquirers is Estonia, the second is Lithuania, but the third – Latvia. However, in terms of concluded contracts the first is Cyprus, the second – Estonia, and the third – Latvia. See figure.
