LIAA: 241 project applications received for support in process digitalization

Ministry of Economics

The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) continues to provide state support to companies for process digitalization and productivity enhancement in the form of grants up to 100,000 euros. The total state support in this program until the end of 2026 is 37.5 million euros.

"We encourage companies to actively use state support for the implementation of various digital solutions, including export promotion, internal process organization, and digital innovations. In total, by March 10, 241 project applications have been received, and 137 contracts have been concluded with companies for a total support amount of nearly 3 million euros," says Iveta Strupkāja, acting director of LIAA, emphasizing that the acceptance of project applications continues.

Support can be applied for projects that will cover the costs of purchasing, developing, installing, and customizing ready-made solutions, hardware, sensors, equipment, software, and information technology infrastructure, including license purchases and consultation costs.

Riga 2nd Hospital, specializing in traumatology and orthopedics, has introduced a new sterilization solution that allows for the digital documentation of the entire sterile material circulation cycle, as well as efficient planning and accounting of the necessary instruments for operations.

"The state support program for process digitalization has allowed the Central Sterilization and Disinfection Department of Riga 2nd Hospital to save time by up to five times and reduce the risk of errors that may occur when manually filling out documents. Consequently, patient safety has improved, as well as the hospital's work process efficiency, speed, and precision," emphasizes Kristaps Ločs, a board member of Riga 2nd Hospital.

Engineering company "Shipprojects" with state support of 31,649 euros has purchased high-quality laser scanning equipment and software, which provides significantly better measurement precision and the opportunity to offer services to a broader range of industries. The introduction of the Leica RTC360 laser scanner improves project planning and reduces potential errors by identifying problems faster, thereby also saving financial resources.

"We use laser scanning data daily to create 3D models and Digital Twins for our clients. These are useful in various projects, such as building renovation, production space planning, data management, inventory management, and even data analytics. With the new laser scanner, we can perform our work in much higher quality, faster, and more precisely, reducing unnecessary costs," shares Roberta Krauze, the company's development manager.

With state support of 50,000 euros, the metalworking company "KnK Mefab" has introduced new solutions in production automation – a new CNC-controlled tube laser cutting workstation and its software, which will allow for the automatic production of parts designed in 3D models, reducing product manufacturing time from 2-3 hours to just 15-30 minutes and decreasing the volume of defective products.

In the LIAA implemented support program "Support for Process Digitalization in Commercial Activities," realized within the framework of the Latvian Recovery and Resilience Facility support plan, the support intensity for projects up to 5,000 euros is 100%, while for projects from 5,000 to 100,000 euros, the support intensity ranges from 30 to 60%.

So far, 241 project applications for support in process digitalization have been received, of which 143 applications are for support up to 5,000 euros, and 87 project applications are up to 100,000 euros. Most applications have been received for processes related to improvements in information and communication technology, security, technology, as well as sales. Similarly, a considerable number of project applications have also been received for the improvement and digitalization of production and quality processes, as well as for more efficient resource management.
