Public discussion of the EU Funds’ draft activity programme for 2021-2027 has completed

From 10 August till 9 September, each potential promoter and stakeholder of the European Union (EU) Funds’ projects had a possibility to review the EU Funds’ draft activity programme for 2021-2027 and to express their opinion within the scope of the public discussion organised by the Ministry of Finance. More than fifty social and cooperation partners, local governments, non-governmental organisations of various sectors, enterprises and interested residents have submitted opinions and comments with respect to the prepared draft activity programme.

Within the scope of public discussion, the Ministry of Finance also organised six thematic meetings, at which social and cooperation partners had the possibility to remotely review the draft activity programme in more detail, listen to the standpoint of line ministries, as well as provide offers and express their proposals as to the necessary adjustments or changes. Representatives from almost one hundred various organisations took part in the thematic meetings.

It is planned to submit the activity programme for review in the government in October this year, and for approval in the European Commission - at the beginning of 2021.
The activity programme has been developed, based on the needs of the national economy identified and the tasks set in the National Development Plan for 2021–2027.

The draft activity programme for 2021-2027 aggregates the strategic objectives, measures to be supported within the activities, target groups, indicative volume of funding and planned outputs of the European Social Fund+ (ESF+), the Cohesion Fund (CF), the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Just Transition Fund. The draft activity programme for 2021-2027 and the compilation of thematic discussions (in Latvian) can be viewed, by visiting the website of EU funds.

The agreement reached at the meeting of the EU leaders provides that almost 10.5 billion euros will be available for the economic development of Latvia over the period of the next seven years. Out of which 4.68 billion euros is allocated for the cohesion policy programmes (ESF+. CF, ERDF), while about 198 million euros - for the programmes of the Just Transition Fund. For the agreement on the multiyear budget to take effect, support from the European Parliament is necessary.
