International Conference "Measuring the macroeconomic impact of European Union funds
and examining the economic reasoning behind Cohesion policy"

On May 29–30, 2008, in Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, Strēlnieku Street 4a, an international conference “Measuring the macroeconomic impact of European Union funds and examining the economic reasoning behind Cohesion policy” will be held organized by the Ministry of Finance in cooperation with Baltic International Centre for economic Policy Studies and Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. 

The goal of the conference is to facilitate exchange of experience among economic experts from different countries about EU funds macroeconomic impact assessment, methods used, including modelling methods, results, their interpretations and influence on further decisions. 

Both representatives of economic sector and professionals working with economic, financial and EU fund issues on daily basis will participate in the conference.

The following themes will be discussed:

  • EU funds impact on the development of Latvian economy presented by analyzing the results of the macroeconomic midterm evaluation model developed specifically for Latvian economic situation on the EU funds impact assessment;

  • EU funds macroeconomic impact assessment methods, including developed models, used by other EU member states; 

  • Results of the, analysis and interpretation of the results for other member states;

  • Economic background of the Cohesion policy; optimistic and sceptical view on the contribution of the EU funds to economy and the value added of this contribution in terms of the EU budget review debates.
