Tomorrow, December 2, a conference will be held in Riga on “Voluntary for a Safer Society – Build the Future Now”.
The conference is organised to honor volunteers of the Prison Administration and the State Probation Service on the United Nations International Volunteer Day of the. It is celebrated worldwide on December 5th.
The conference will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Prison Administration and the State Probation Service, employees of the ESF project “Integration of former prisoners into society and the labour market”, volunteers of the Prisons Administration and the State Probation Service, the State Probation Service, which organizes the work of volunteer workers, as well as the people involved in the promotion of voluntary work in resocialisation of convicted and released persons.
The conference is scheduled in two parts: in the first part, introduction speeches by the Minister of Justice Janis Bordans, the Chief of Prisons Administration Dmitrijs Kalins and the Head of State Probation Service Imants Jurevcius. The Ministry of Justice award for “Human to human” will then be handed out to volunteers by the Minister of Justice Janis Bordans and Ministry of Justice State Secretary Mihails Papsujevics.
The second part will provide lectures and experience stories for lecturers and volunteers. Speeches and lectures will be given by: Chief Inspector Rihards Pokis, State Probation Service's Training and Studies Division Data Analysis expert Ronalds Cinks , Command and Individual Kouch Jeva Karabesko, Head of the Society “Resiliences Centre” youth projects and programmes manager Aiga Romane-Meiere. Members of the conference will be addressed by Valdis Melders and Sanda Dejus. The volunteers themselves will also share the experience, including the chess master Sergejs Klimakovs, who prepared the prisoners for the intercontinental prisoner chess tournament, which took place online.
For the fifth year, this conference is organised through the implementation of the ESF project “Integration of former prisoners into society and the labour market” to strengthen the volunteer community involved in criminal justice work and motivate them to continue their important work. The conference is an opportunity to familiarise itself with the good practices of volunteering and the lessons learned about the effectiveness of this work in promoting public safety. All invited lecturers participate on a voluntary basis.
