The Ministry of the Interior is proactively preparing for the EU Home Affairs Funds next planning period by initiating informal discussions on funding conditions that will impact EU Home Affairs Funds across Europe.

At the invitation of the Ministry of the Interior, representatives from the leading institutions of the EU and Schengen Area member states' Home Affairs Funds, totaling 27 countries, met in Riga on November 28th and 29th, 2024. Meeting participants analyzed existing administrative procedures and identified opportunities to optimize the allocation and use of EU funds.

Dimitrijs Trofimovs, State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, stated: "By hosting this significant meeting, we reaffirm our active participation in strengthening Latvia's and the entire EU's internal security on the path towards a safer and more united Europe. As a result of the meeting, experts developed specific recommendations to help optimize the allocation and use of EU Home Affairs Funds in the fight against illegal migration, organized crime, cybercrime, and other transnational threats. Our goal is to ensure that EU Home Affairs Funds are even better adapted to modern security threats".

The meeting resulted in the development of specific recommendations for European Commission decision-makers to ensure that EU Home Affairs Funds are used even more effectively in the future.
