On Friday, January 10, 2025, the towers and access roads built in late 2024 for the surveillance of the Latvian-Belarusian border along the Daugava River section were commissioned.

Six observation towers and access roads have been constructed within the framework of the Financial Support Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy project No. NVA/RPVP/2023/1 "Development of the construction concept and execution of construction works for the infrastructure of the Republic of Latvia - Republic of Belarus border - Metal towers and access roads to the towers (Phase 3, Stage 1)," implemented by the State Provision Agency in cooperation with State Real Estate. The construction of the observation towers and access roads is ensured by State Real Estate.

Total project funding: EUR 3,633,924, including 75% funding from the Financial Support Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy fund and 25% state budget funding.

The overall goal of the project is to develop the infrastructure necessary for the protection of the external land border of the Republic of Latvia - Republic of Belarus. The construction of the observation towers and access roads will contribute to more efficient and effective state border control by the State Border Guard, timely identifying cases of illegal state border crossings and other violations in the state border zone.
