Topicalities in the EU financing discussed with the social and cooperation partners

On Tuesday, August 4, the meeting with the social and cooperation partners "European Union investments in the Programming Period 2021 - 2027" was held in the Ministry of Finance. During the meeting, the most topical issues with respect to the financing of the European Union (EU) funds after 2020 were discussed with the social and cooperation partners: the amount of allocation for Latvia, the planned time schedule, as well as the involvement of the partners in the planning process.

The Minister for Finance Jānis Reirs emphasises: “The next programming period is a great possibility for Latvia for effective contributions into development of the country. The agreement achieved at the meeting of the EU leaders provides that almost 10.5 billion euro will be available for the development of Latvian economy over the period of the next seven years. Thanks to the newly established EU economy recovery instrument, which provides for five billion euro to Latvia, the total allocation to Latvia for the purposes of Cohesion Policy at current prices with co-funding comprises about 8 billion euro. Therewith, in the new programming period Latvia will have almost by half larger funding available in total for the development, reforms and strengthening of the economy, as compared to the period of 2014 – 2020 ."

The decision of the European Council on the multiyear budget for 2021 - 2027 and the new EU Recovery Instrument provide for broad possibilities for the national development and growth, enabling even more fully- fledged implementation of the projections contained in the National Development Plan for 2021 - 2027. For the agreement on the multiyear to take effect, the support from the European Parliament is necessary.

For the sectoral planning to be result-oriented, the involvement of partners in the development of planning documents of all sectors is essential. It is also important to involve partners into further steps in the development of particular reforms, aid measures and investment projects.

The meeting was attended by the representatives from the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia, Employers' Confederation of Latvia, Latvian Association of Large Cities, Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Council of cooperation memorandum of Non-governmental organizations and Cabinet of Ministers and Association of Regional Development Centres.
