With EU support, the implementation of the Entry/Exit System and the European Travel Information and Authorization System solutions is initiated

The Information Center of the Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with the State Border Guard and the State Police, has initiated the implementation of the European Union's Financial Instrument for Borders and Visa Policy Project No. IC/RPVP/2024/11 "Implementation of the Entry/Exit System and ETIAS - Phase 2" (hereinafter referred to as the Project).

Within the framework of the project, with the financial support of the European Union, solutions necessary for the operation of the Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) will be implemented.

Main activities of the project:

  • Upgrading the State Border Guard's electronic information system to implement the functionality required for the operation of EES and ETIAS;

  • Implementation of a central access point solution with EES and ETIAS, implementation of an ETIAS control list solution, implementation of an ETIAS national unit solution;

  • Adaptation of SIRENE IS for processing ETIAS data;

  • EES information campaign.

Benefits: Improved border control, accelerated traveler verification, strengthened security, and reduced risk of illegal entry into the European Union.

The project is planned to be implemented by June 30, 2025.

The total project budget is 2,683,437 euros, of which the European Union's Financial Instrument for Borders and Visa Policy fund provides 1,012,577 euros, while the state budget provides 670,860 euros.

The project is co-financed by the European Union under the Financial Instrument for Borders and Visa Policy for the 2021-2027 planning period, the managing authority in Latvia being the Ministry of the Interior.
