On September 11-15, 2023, a five-day practical seminar “Overall threats on the Latvian - Belarusian - Lithuanian - Belarusian border in the context of mass influx of immigrants, practical prevention thereof” was held at the State border Guard College. The seminar was organized with the aim of strengthening the interoperability and communication of the activities of officials of the border security authorities of Lithuania and Latvia in the event of a mass influx of immigrants on the border between Latvia - Belarus and Lithuania - Belarus.

Representatives of the State Border Guard, the State Border Guard College, the State Police, the State Police College, the National Border Guard, as well as structural units of the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Lithuania and the Border Guard School participated in the seminar.

The program of the seminar included consideration of issues concerning the resources and instruments to be used in the assessment of state border threats, involvement of co-operation partners in state border surveillance activities, as well as planning of the organization and implementation of deterrence measures. During the seminar, colleagues shared their experience in the implementation of the asylum procedure and visited the Accommodation Centre for asylum seekers “Liepna”, as well as became acquainted with the State Border Guard Aviation and Special Operations Department, discussing the use of resources of special task units in land border surveillance activities.

The seminar has been organized within the framework of the project “Strengthening the capacity of border protection institutions in the field of combating cross-border smuggling and illegal immigration by developing cynology services”.

The project is being implemented under the European Neighborhood Instrument and funded by the European Union.
