"Sadales tīkls" invites potential service providers to submit their proposals in the open tender "Supply and Installation of Solar Photovoltaic Panels at Transformer Stations" by April 3 of this year. This activity is implemented with the support of the European Union's Recovery Fund as part of the project "Modernization of the AS 'Sadales tīkls' Electricity Distribution System."

As a result of the tender, contracts are planned to be signed for the supply and installation of solar panels at 696 transformer stations in the network departments of Balvi, Daugavpils, Jelgava, Jēkabpils, Ķekava, Liepāja, Madona, Preiļi, Rēzekne, Sigulda, Smiltene, Valmiera, Talsi, Tukums, and Ventspils. Applicants are allowed to submit a proposal for one or more, or all parts of the tender subject, providing a proposal for the full volume of the respective part.

The submission of proposals is conducted only in electronic format through the Electronic Procurement System of the State Regional Development Agency at www.eis.gov.lv, following the requirements set out in the tender regulations. The initial proposal submission deadline is until 10:00 on April 3, 2024. The tender documentation can be accessed here.

By May 2026, "Sadales tīkls" plans to equip 696 of its transformer substations across Latvia with solar panels to partially compensate for the technical losses of transformers installed at substations and the self-consumption costs at substations, thereby reducing the overall electricity costs necessary for the operator's activities. "This is a significant project that will help strengthen the efficiency of the electricity distribution service in the long term. 'Sadales tīkls' maintains an electricity network in Latvia with a total length exceeding 92,000 kilometers, and providing electricity supply service requires large volumes of electricity. The majority of this consists of technological consumption or losses, which occur in the electricity network during the energy transmission process according to the laws of physics. Our calculations show that as a result of implementing this activity, it could be possible to produce up to two gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, which would accordingly reduce the costs included in the tariff," states Sandis Jansons, Chairman of the Board of "Sadales tīkls."

The total funding amount allocated to "Sadales tīkls" from the Recovery Fund is 41.9 million euros. By investing these funds, several activities are planned to be implemented with the goal of strengthening the electricity network, improving the quality of the electricity supply service, and optimizing the company's operations. Other project activities include the reconstruction and modernization of medium voltage electric lines, replacement of outdated transformers, and construction of connection points for the development of public electric vehicle charging stations.
