Regulations approved to ensure full integration of railway into TEN-T network

Ministry of Transport

On Tuesday, 23 July, the government approved the Cabinet of Ministers regulations prepared by the Ministry of Transport (MoT) to provide funding for the construction, reconstruction, and renovation of railway infrastructure under the Cohesion Fund (CF). This will ensure the full integration of the railway into the TEN-T network, improve energy efficiency, and increase the safety and comfort of passenger transport.

The regulations aim to establish the procedure for implementing the European Union (EU) Structural Funds and Cohesion Fund 2014-2020 programming period projects: "Modernisation of Railway Infrastructure to Increase the Speed of Trains" and "Modernisation of Railway Passenger Infrastructure," with CF funding of €52.39 million available for their completion.

The railway infrastructure development investments aim to strengthen the railway as the backbone of public transport by modernizing the existing electrified railway network, expanding the electrified area, and improving passenger transport and train safety, service quality, and comfort. The projects will be implemented to provide for elevated platforms and increase train speeds.
