EC: Latvia Has Successfully Started Work on Introducing the New Programming Period
On Friday, 28 March, a meeting is being held by the Temporary European Union (EU) funds Supervision Committee in Riga during which cooperation partners are being acquainted with the major comments by the European Commission (EC) on the Partnership Agreement, further process of the elaboration of planning documents and with the issues on fulfilment of ex-ante conditions (pre-conditions). There are also presentations of line ministries being examined about the new programming period’s activities to be started earlier.
Representative of Directorate-General for EC Regional and Urban Policy Elina Hakonen-Meddings, when introducing the audience with the mayor comments about the Partnership Agreement emphasised: “Latvia has successfully started work on the new planning period. Already in the last year, there was an active dialogue held between the EC and Latvia. Due to the readiness of Latvia’s side to start a work duly, Latvia is the third Member State which has submitted the Partnership Agreement and the second Member State which has received comments from the EC.”
“Latvia is one of the first EU Member States which has submitted the action programme “Growth and Employment” to the EC for the next 2014-2020 programming period of the EU funds. Currently we have achieved a considerable progress by preparation to the new programming period. Successful progress has been achieved in the field of research and innovations in which there had been a positively evaluated strategy worked out and well as budget has been increased. Similarly, development is observable in the transport sector in which there has been a balanced investment strategy worked out from Latvia’s side,” specifies Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance in EU Funds Issues Armands Eberhards.
The Ministry of Finance as the Managing Authority of the EU funds will continue its active work on updating the Partnership Agreement. In cooperation with responsible line ministries and the Cross-Sectoral Coordination Centre, the comments received will be evaluated accurately and will be included in the updated document of the Partnership Agreement.
Temporary EU Funds Supervisory Committee has been established in order to provide the efficient supervision over the implementation of EU funds in compliance with the priorities and objectives stated in activity programmes. Today the EC representatives and the delegated representatives of state administrative authorities, local governments, planning regions, social partners and of non-governmental organisations will participate in the meeting.
