Erudition competition marking the 20th anniversary of Latvia's accession to the European Union

Ministry of Transport

Marking Latvia's 20 years in the European Union (EU), the Ministry of Transport will carry out public engagement activities throughout the year 2024, providing information on projects implemented in the transport and communication sector with the support of EU funds.

In order to inform the general public, especially young people, about the benefits of Latvia's EU membership, a series of erudition competitions on EU-funded projects in the transport and communication sectors was launched on the Ministry's social media platforms earlier this year. Every month throughout the year, everyone in Latvia who cares about the development and future of Latvia and Europe is invited to take part in competitions to test and expand their knowledge about projects implemented in the transport and communication sectors over the past 20 years. Not every project implemented with EU funding could be included in this competition. To provide comprehensive information, the competition covers projects in various transport and communication sub-sectors, including more convenient and environmentally friendly public transport, improved quality and safer national roads, significantly cheaper mobile phone use in EU countries, etc.

For 20 years people in Latvia have been actively benefiting from the opportunities offered by EU membership. Latvia has changed considerably over these years, including its transport and communications sectors, which have benefited from the EU funds available. We hope that the series of erudition competition will provide a broader insight into what has been achieved, thereby raising awareness of the benefits for society.
