On 7 May 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft regulation on support for infrastructure development and rehabilitation activities aimed at adaptation of municipalities to climate change and disaster risk reduction, developed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development.
The total funding planned under the first selection round of the measure is at least EUR 34.76 million, including EUR 29.55 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and at least EUR 5.21 million from municipal and private funding.
The municipality, an institution established by the municipality or a municipal capital company performing delegated administrative tasks may apply for funding. The aid intensity is up to 85%. The minimum eligible costs per project are EUR 200 000. The maximum ERDF funding per project is EUR 3 million.
At least ten municipalities are expected to benefit from the measure. Investments will be granted for the creation and rehabilitation of green infrastructure and nature-based solutions such as the creation of green barriers, islands and corridors in the urban environment, multi-storey, vertical and wall planting, the construction of water supply systems for green areas, the creation of blue infrastructure to reduce the urban heat island effect and drought risks. Support should also be given to the rehabilitation of rainwater harvesting systems, actions to strengthen the resilience of flood-prone areas and eroded banks to climate change.
Project proposals will be evaluated through an open call for proposals. The Central Financial and Contracts Agency, as the Cooperation Authority for the European Union Funds, will launch the call for proposals in June this year.
