European Commission has approved Operational Programme for the Period of 2007-2013
Human Resources and Employment
On December 18, European Commission has approved Operational Programme for the period of 2007-2013 Human resources and Employment within the framework of which there is 550.7 million euro available for Latvia from the European Union budget. The programme will be financed from the European Social Fund and it is aimed at development of education and science, employment and promotion of social alignment, creation of healthy labour force, as well as strengthening of administrative capacity.
„With the approval of this operational programme the EU fund planning stage for the period of 2007-2013 has been successfully finished. The European Commission has approved all three operational programmes submitted by Latvia, as well as strategic basis for EU fund utilization in 7 year period - Latvian National Strategic Reference Framework. With this decision Latvia can start implementation of EU funds in all planned field, however, taking account of current national economy conditions, the government shall carefully supervise efficiency of the implementation and its results. As it has been mentioned before already for several times, Latvia has to do its utmost not to the EU allocated funding, but at the same time to use the financing for stabilization and development of national economy and”, said N.Broks (TB/LNNK).
First projects of the new period are planned to be launched in education and social care. In the first quarter of 2008, it is planned to launch a project for provision of natural sciences material bases, improvement of general and preschool educational institution infrastructure, improvement of social rehabilitation services and improvement of energy efficiency in social houses.
As it was announced before, on September 20, European Commission approved a 4.53 billion euro „worth” Latvian National Strategy for Acquisition of EU Funds 2007-2013 – Latvian National Strategic Reference Framework, but on September 24 and December 11 operational programmes Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Infrastructure and Services were approved accordingly.
