Get acquainted with the work of the Latvian Prison Administration

In recent years, the Latvian prison system has undergone major changes. And professional employees are the main engine of successful change and development of our system.

The ability of employees to include an understanding of the convicted person's situation in their daily work is important in order to create positive relationships based on cooperation and interaction. In order to promote this, we are not only working on the creation of a new Learning Center, but also with the support of European Social Fund projects, we are developing modern training programs for staff education and development, and we are providing support measures to increase the integration of ex-prisoners into society and the labor market.

Hence, it is very important to realize that the convict cannot simply be locked up in four walls and hope that he will improve. To bring about change, we work with the offender's reactions and behavior, we catch thinking errors and teach correct behavior patterns.

Our daily task is both to provide a safe environment for offenders, where they would not harm the society, as well as thorough resocialization work to give these people the opportunity to return to society as productive and law-abiding fellow citizens, thus contributing to the safety of our country and society in general.
