Government allocates additional financing in the state budget 2010 for implementation of already approved EU funds projects

Government allocates additional financing in the state budget 2010 for implementation of already approved EU funds projects

On Tuesday, September 22, in the sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers the Ministry of Finance presented to the Government an informative report on additional financing needed in 2010 for implementation of the European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund and Cohesion Fund projects.

Already in July this year, the Government approved an order regarding state budget long-term liabilities in 2010 setting 182 million lats for EU funds projects on which contracts were signed with final beneficiaries at that moment or applications of which were already considered and approved.

Since the number of evaluated and approved projects has increased in this period the Government decided on additional financing in amount of 236 million lats in the state budget. Therefore, in total for already approved projects there will be 417.8 million lats ensured in the state budget 2010 which is minimum necessary financing and exceeds the financing allocated for this goal in the state budget 2009 by 82 million lats.

The Government will still make a decision on necessary financing in the state budget 2010 for EU funds projects which are currently in the planning, development or evaluation stage.

The decision of the Government is significant because EU funds in Latvia are one of most important mechanisms for heating economy and promotion of growth. Also an agreement has been made with international donors on facilitation of EU funds acquisition allocating sufficient amount of resources for this goal.
