Implementation of the patrol boat acquisition project for the State Border Guard has begun.

The project will strengthen the State Border Guard's maritime border surveillance capabilities and increase its detection, control and response capabilities on the EU's external border - for the quick and immediate prevention of existing and potential security threats and provocations. The acquired patrol boat will be an invaluable asset in helping the State Border Guard to fulfill its tasks qualitatively and operatively, not only in the Baltic Sea region, but also to provide support to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and other Mediterranean EU member states within the framework of Frontex coordinated activities.

With the help of the project, the State Border Guard will significantly increase its ability to ensure higher maritime border surveillance standards and overall response capacity, which is necessary for the border surveillance of the EU's external border and the ability to carry out operational activities in accordance with the concept of integrated EU border management.

The project will contribute to the implementation of the EU's security strategy and will protect fundamental rights and European values.

The project is being implemented by the State Border Guard within the framework of the Financial Instrument for Border Management and Visa Policy 2021-2027, the managing authority of which in Latvia is the Ministry of the Interior.
