The temporary platforms are intended for temporary use until new, permanent passenger platforms are completed. The construction takes place in stages and after each new platform is put into service, the boarding and alighting of the passengers will take place at the permanent – modernized and modernly equipped passenger platform. The construction of the modernized platforms - 48 stations and stops in total will be completed by the end of 2023.
Rinalds Pļavnieks, chairman of the board of JSC LDz: "The passenger infrastructure modernization project is one of the most significant and large-scale projects implemented by LDz in recent years. At the same time, it is also a challenging, complicated and even unique project, because in parallel with intensive construction works, we continue to ensure continuous, safe and efficient operation of railway transport."
Although the need to use temporary platforms may cause some short-term inconvenience, it should be emphasized that the temporary platforms used during construction are safe to use and are designed for intensive flow of people and load - the platforms have been assessed and accepted in service by the State Railway Technical Inspectorate. Temporary platforms are built from wooden structures or metal scaffold structures. Builders should monitor the quality of temporary platforms throughout their operation and, if necessary, prevent damage, for example by replacing worn-out material with new.
In order to provide citizens with a modern, safe and comfortable railway infrastructure, JSC LDz will modernize or rebuild elevated passenger platforms and related infrastructure in a total of 48 stations and stops by the end of 2023. The new passenger platforms will be comfortable and attractive, suitable for the needs of each member of the public, including those with mobility impairments or parents with prams. The new platforms will be equipped with comfortable and functional canopies, benches, lighting and announcement systems and other necessary equipment for comfortable and pleasant use of railway traffic.
The project "Modernization of railway passenger infrastructure" is implemented with 85% co-financing from the EU Cohesion Fund.
