International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Urban Development
On 30 October, 2008, in Šlokenbeka, Smārde Parish, Tukums District the Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the European Investment Bank and European Commission held a conference on energy efficiency and sustainable urban development. The conference activated discussion on channelling resources to solving problems of energy efficiency and sustainable urban development in Latvia.
Conference objective was to build awareness on possibilities to attract European Union funding based on example of successful European Investment Bank activities in Latvia and launching of European Regional Development Fund and Cohesion Fund operational programme „Infrastructure and Services”.
Presentations were made by experts from the European Commission Regional Policy and Energy and Transport Directorates-General – Anton Schrag and Vincent Berrutto, representative of the European Investment Bank – Vice-President Eva Srejber and Heinz Olbers, as well as Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Andžs Ūbelis, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Regional development and Local Government Māris Krastiņš and Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics Andris Kužnieks.
Smārde Parish Council Chairman Gundars Važa exchanged his experience of attraction European Regional Development Fund financing to the Parish presenting the project „Improving Energy Efficiency in Smārde Elementary School”.
The seminar was attended by representatives from the local government, local enterprises, planning regions, institutions involved in the operational programme „Infrastructure and Services”, JSC „Latvenergo”, JSC “Latvijas Gāze”, commercial banks, as well as representatives of other financial institutions and other interested parties.
