Ministry of Transport

Marking the 20th anniversary of Latvia's accession to the European Union and to continue the successful tradition, the students from all over Latvia are invited to participate in our Job Shadow day event on April 4. This is a unique opportunity for students to gain insight into the daily operation of the Ministry of Transport and engage directly with our staff.

What is it like to work at the Ministry of Transport? What is the daily routine of the Minister of Transport, directors of the departments and many other employees?

The students will have the possibility meet:

-          The Minister of Transport;

-          Rail Baltica project lawyers;

-          The Director of International cooperation coordination,

-          Heads of Aviation and Public transport services;

-          Heads of rail and road infrastructure;

-          Transport logistics expert;

-          Human resources management specialist.

This year the Ministry of Transport offers 40 young people the opportunity to shadow. Job Shadow Day presents a unique opportunity for the students to shadow the daily routine day of the Minister of Transport, heads of departments and other staff members. The students will get an insight into the Ministry of Transport’s role and the contribution of the EU funds toward sustainable transport and communication sector.

Additionally, the participants will have the chance to visit the construction site of the Rail Baltica Riga Central station project. Accompanied by representatives of the construction workers, the students will have the opportunity to witness firsthand what the station will look like and learn about its impact on urban development.

This year, the students who visit the Ministry of Transport will have a unique opportunity to obtain a bicycle licence. The Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) will provide this service, inviting the students to take a road safety test and get their licences.

Job Shadow Day is a globally recognised career education programme for students in grades 1-12, organised by Junior Achievement Latvia, during which the students visit a workplace and spend 4-6 hours observing the daily work of the specialist in the profession they are interested in. Job Shadow Day aims to familiarise pupils with the requirements of different professions and sectors to help them choose a career and prepare them for the labour market.
