Latvia continues to support international efforts to strengthen security and promote stability

Ministry of the Interior

On May 7, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers issued an order to extend the period of participation for a year to a State Police official with special rank Dmitrijs Kosarevs in the European Union observation mission in Georgia (EUMM Georgia).

Latvia continues to support international efforts to strengthen security and promote stability by participating in United Nations, European Union, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) missions and operations. Up to 30 civilian experts are sent to participate in international missions each year.

Currently 16 civilian experts of Latvia participate in the civilian international missions of the European Union, including 11 in the European Union observation mission in Georgia, 4 in the European Union advisory mission in Ukraine, and 1 in the European Union mission in Armenia.

Officials from the Ministry of the Interior have been contributing professionally to EUMM Georgia for over 14 years.

EUMM Georgia is an unarmed observation mission which launched its work on 1 October 2008 under the agreement between Russia and Georgia of 12 August 2008, in which the European Union acted as an intermediary, and on the Decision of 8 September 2008 on European Security and Defense Policy. Its role is to contribute to stability throughout Georgia and the surrounding region.
