Latvia Has Regained the First Place After the Repayments of the European Social Fund Made by the EC

Latvia has regained the first place after the repayments of the European Social Fund (ESF) made by the European Commission (EC) into the state budget. Until the middle of January 79.3% (325 million lats) from the total ESF allocation were received in the budget. Estonia is on the second place with 73.49% of ESF repayments but on the third – Ireland with 69.98%, as testified by the latest data received from the EC. See the diagram below:

Received ESF payments from the EC in the national budget revenues, data until 15.01.2013.

ESF repayments are the highest, which can be accounted for both ESF contribution to the decrease of social tension and the facilitation of employment in a complicated economic situation in the previous years as well as motivated action in the promotion of active employment measures and the activation of population in the labour market.

Other data on the repayments of EU funds are lower – 49.55% (838 million lats) received from the EC in the state budget revenues for the financing of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and 46.07% (499 million lats) for the Cohesion Fund (CF).

In total the agreements on the implementation of ESF, ERDF and CF projects were concluded for 93.9% from 3,18 billion lats of the financing of EU funds, payments to the project promoters were made in the amount of 56,2% from the total financing of EU funds but the repayments received from the EC in the state budget amounted to 52,2%.
