Ministry of the Interior reports on the reforms in the interior sector

On 5 June 2023, Mr. Kaspars Āboliņš, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, informed the Ministry of Finance on the progress made and ongoing reforms in the interior sector of Latvia in the context of the European Commission's Structural Reform Support Programme (Technical Support Instrument). Mr. Mario Nava, Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Structural Reform (DG-REFORM), also attended the meeting.

Since 2018, the Ministry of Interior has carried out structural reforms in its subordinate institutions, thanks to cooperation with DG-REFORM, with a view to significantly increasing internal security in Latvia. One of the main reforms has been the capacity building of the State Police, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs and the State Fire and Rescue Service, which includes modern training and technology deployment, the introduction of information systems, improvement of infrastructure with a view to ensuring more efficient work processes.

The projects were carried out in cooperation with HAUS Finnish Institute of Public Management Ltd, Police of Finland, Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, Lithuanian police, Ministry of the Interior of Finland, Estonian Rescue Board and Finnish Immigration Service.
