The Cabinet of Ministers has issued an order to send a State Police officer to participate in an EU mission in Armenia

Ministry of the Interior

On September 17, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers issued an order to send a State Police officer with the special rank of Andris Andrejuks to participate in the European Union (EU) mission in Armenia (EUMA).

Latvia continues to support international efforts to strengthen security and promote stability by participating in UN, EU, OSCE, and NATO missions and operations. Up to 30 civilian experts are sent to participate in international missions each year.

Currently, 17 Latvian civilian seconded experts are participating in EU civilian international missions, including 12 in the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM Georgia), 4 in the EU Advisory Mission in Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine), and 1 in the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA).

State Police and State Border Guard officers have been making professional contributions to civilian missions for several years.

The EU mission in Armenia (EUMA) was launched following a decision of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on February 20, 2023, and began its on-site operations. The task of EUMA is to monitor the situation on the ground and report on it, promote the safety of people in conflict-affected areas, and, if possible, support confidence-building between Armenia and Azerbaijan. EUMA is a key component of the EU's efforts to support peace and stability in the region.
