The State Police of Latvia, in co-operation with the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior and the State Border Guard has started implementation of project No. of the Internal Security Fund for the period 2021-2027 VP/IDF/2023/7 “Development of a common criminal intelligence system” (hereinafter - project). The objectives of the project are to strengthen information exchange, cross-border cooperation and the prevention and combating of crime.
So far, both the Ministry of the Interior and the State Police of Latvia have carried out a series of measures aimed at strengthening the fight against serious and organized crime based on criminal intelligence, however, in assessing and comparing Latvia's opportunities with other Member States of the European Union, it is necessary to strengthen them in order to fully fulfil the assigned tasks and commitments at both national and international level.
Main activities of the project:
development of the Criminal intelligence support information system in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 37, testing and implementation thereof, as well as development of solutions for the integration of international information of this system;
creation of the protected infrastructure for the Criminal intelligence support information system;
improvement and establishment of external and internal laws and regulations;
training of employees for using Criminal intelligence support information system;
development of methodologies for analysis of criminal intelligence organization and criminal intelligence information.
Total financing of the project: EUR 9 153 315, of which the financing of the Internal Security Fund is EUR 6 864 986, while the financing of the state budget is EUR 2 288 329.
